Kanauraa vowel which looks like this ( ੌ ) is added above the alphabet.

In its normal form it gives the sound of “au” as in the word “Sauce”.

Kanauraa Vowel can be used with all alphabets except Oorah (ੳ) and Eirrie (ੲ)

In Gurbani writings Kanauraa is used for the following purposes:

1) With Nouns and Pronouns the Kanauraa vowel is pronounced with a Bindi. (Nasal Sound)

ਮੁਹੌ ਕਿ ਬੋਲਣੁ ਬੋਲੀਐ ਜਿਤੁ ਸੁਣਿ ਧਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥ (Panna 2) ਮੁਹੌਂ needs to be pronounced with nasal sound.

ਨਾਨਕ ਜੇ ਕੋ ਆਪੌ ਜਾਣੈ ਅਗੈ ਗਇਆ ਨ ਸੋਹੈ ॥੨੧॥ (Panna 4) ਆਪੌਂ needs to be pronounced with nasal sound.

ਖਟ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਊਚੌ ਕਹਹਿ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰ ॥ (Panna 297) ਊਚੌਂ needs to be pronounced with nasal sound.

In Gurbani writings Kannuraa is the least used Vowel.
(ਉ) is used in general, instead of Kanauraa ( ੌ )
