Laawaan which looks like a single line at about 135 degrees angle ( ੇ ) is added above the alphabet.

In its normal form it gives the sound of “ay” as in the word “late”.

In Gurbani writings it is generally with the last letter of words which could be referred as ” grammatical ending”
This rule of grammatical ending is very different to the normal day Punjabi writings
It should be understood by the rules discussed below.

Laawaan can be used with all alphabets except “ੳ and ਅ”.

In Gurbani Writings the Laawaan is used for the following :
1) As a preposition with Nouns.
